
Look out! Soon it will be the holiday season and along with work, you'll be bombarded with obligations, parties and activities that could zap your energy and creativity. As a creative professional, mood and motivation are major players in your ability to be inspired and get your job done right. To stay mellow, be sure to avoid these creativity crushers.
- Smoking. Nicotine is a stimulant that overworks your heart and increases blood pressure. You may feel relief for the moment, but this is just your body's response to receiving it's craving to this addictive substance.
- Obsessing. Venting about problems with work or friends and family can help you solve problems. But saying that you're stressed repeatedly will only reinforce the heavy feeling of being overwhelmed. Try not to complain more than three times.
- Grand Standing. Don't overreact or exaggerate situations. Others may no longer take you seriously or may stop listening altogether. Visualize your life in a month or so and put your problem in perspective.
- Negativity. It can be contagious and kill not only your mood but those around you. Take a hint from a happy pal. You're 15% more likely to be happy yourself if you do. And don't forget to count your blessings!
- Snapping. No, not breaking like a twig. Lashing out usually involves saying hurtful things to people who may not even be involved. Try kickboxing or using a photo of someone you dislike for a dartboard!
